What is a noise monitor?

According to ISO 1996-2:2017, a noise monitor is a measuring instrument used for automated continuous sound monitoring. It monitors A-weighted sound pressure levels, their spectra, and relevant meteorological quantities such as wind speed, wind direction, rain, humidity, and atmospheric stability. To meet the requirements of ISO 1996-2:2017, a noise monitor must have class 1 accuracy, be able to measure low-frequency noise, use automated system checks, have GPS time synchronization, and be able to detect and store noise events. The SV 307A meets all of these requirements and is a top-of-the-line noise monitoring solution.

Automated system checks

The automated system checks performance and alert the user

The SV 307A's hardware add-ons for environmental monitoring include a multi-microphone array inside of a ½” microphone housing. This array allows for a dynamic system check to be performed continuously, based on real acoustic signals measured by the device. If the levels measured by the reference microphone and the measurement microphones differ by more than a certain threshold, the system check will trigger an alarm. Additionally, the SV 307A features an in-built sound source that produces a level of about 100 dBA at 1 kHz, which can be used for automated or manual system checks. These features ensure that the SV 307A is always operating at its best, providing accurate and reliable noise measurements.
