From Real-Time Noise Monitoring to Strategic Acoustic Mapping
Motorcycle racing events produce highly variable and impulsive sound levels, often exceeding 120 dB. Beyond the excitement of competition, these acoustic emissions significantly impact the surrounding environment.
At Autodrom Biłgoraj, a comprehensive monitoring project was carried out to assess environmental noise during motorcycle races. Using the SVANTEK SV 307A Noise Monitoring Station connected to the SvanNET platform, real-time measurements were recorded and later used to develop acoustic maps illustrating the spatial distribution and intensity of noise in the area surrounding the racetrack.
The noise monitoring measurements and data analysis were conducted by Dr. Eng. Rafał Żuchowski from the Silesian University of Technology, specializing in environmental acoustics and noise assessment.
The collected data provided an accurate foundation for acoustic map preparation, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and deepening the understanding of how race events influence the local soundscape.
Challenge
Ensuring Reliable and Representative Data for Acoustic Mapping
Motorcycle noise is highly dynamic, influenced by factors such as engine speed, acceleration, and track conditions. At Autodrom Biłgoraj, the main challenge was to capture detailed sound level variations during racing sessions and monitor noise continuously in real time while ensuring validated data for model calibration. The collected results were then integrated into the acoustic mapping process to accurately visualize noise propagation across the surrounding area.
