Calibration of mechanical vibration calibrators is performed for the purpose of knowing the exact value of acceleration, frequency and total distortion values, along with the corresponding uncertainties. Using a calibrated mechanical vibration calibrator allows for measurement consistency along with the unit’s master standard. The user of a vibration meter should calibrate the measurement path before measurement and after measurement. A mechanical vibration calibrator with known parameters is required for calibration.
The SVANTEK calibration laboratory calibrates mechanical vibration calibrators in accordance with ISO 8041:2017 “Human response to vibration — Measuring instrumentation — Part 1: General purpose vibration meters”. This standard applies to meters of human vibrations, however, Annex A to this standard specifies the requirements and limits of acceptable for mechanical vibration calibrators.
When calibrating mechanical vibration calibrators , the acceleration, frequency and distortion of the generated vibrations are determined. For the measurement of general vibrations acting on humans, the most common calibration is for a frequency of 16 Hz with an acceleration of 1 m/s2, while for local vibrations acting on humans it should be 80 Hz with an acceleration of 10 m/s2. SVANTEK’s vibration calibrators also allow the generation of vibrations at 160 Hz and 630 Hz. Such frequencies can also be calibrated. The calibration must be performed under appropriate environmental conditions – for temperature it should be from 20 to 26 degrees C, for humidity from 25% to 70%, for pressure from 970 hPa to 1050 hPa. These conditions are controlled before and after the series of measurements.
The calibration certificate contains information about the customer ordering the calibration, the type and serial number of the calibrator to be calibrated and the date of calibration. The certificate has a unique number and is linked to the measurement procedure developed based on the relevant standards. The certificate also lists the meteorological conditions under which the calibration procedure was performed. On the second page of the certificate, the calibration results with uncertainties are presented in tabular form.
The mechanical vibration calibrator, like other equipment supplied to the laboratory, must achieve climatic equilibrium. For the measurement of one frequency of the vibration calibrator, 10 measurement series are taken consecutively. Each successive frequency is another measurement series. Usually the customer waits 2 to 3 working days for the calibrator to be calibrated.
The price for calibrating a mechanical vibration calibrator depends on the number of frequency-acceleration pairs you want to calibrate. The more of these pairs, the higher the price for calibration.
