Introduction

Ensuring Accurate WholeBody Vibration Measurements in Moving Vehicles

Whole-body vibration (WBV) is a welldocumented occupational hazard for drivers and machine operators, linked to health issues such as back pain and musculoskeletal disorders. Traditional WBV measurement methods often rely on static assumptions, overlooking factors like road surface quality and vehicle speed. This study demonstrates how modern WBV dosimetry combined with GPS data offers an accurate, actionable picture of vibration exposure.

SVANTEK Consultants

The measurements were carried out by SVANTEK Consultants, vibration experts specializing in wholebody vibration analysis. They equipped the test vehicle with an SV 100A WholeBody Vibration Dosimeter and paired it with the Assistant Pro App for GPS tracking. Their work included defining the driving route, performing the measurements, and analyzing how speed and road conditions impacted WBV exposure

Challenge

Synchronizing WBV Data with Speed and Location for True Accuracy

Measuring WBV in moving vehicles presents unique challenges. Conventional methods often underestimate or overestimate exposure risks because they fail to account for dynamic influences. The challenge was to develop a solution that could:

  • Capture WBV in real time
  • Synchronize vibration data with vehicle speed and location
  • Deliver ISO 2631‑1 compliant assessments for meaningful risk evaluation

Expert Insight

Combined GPS and Vibration Data Enable Accurate WBV Assessment

“By combining vibration measurements with GPS and speed data, we uncover the true picture of whole-body vibration exposure. This integrated approach helps pinpoint hazardous road sections, quantify risk, and supports better prevention strategies.”
