According to ISO 1996-2:2017, a noise monitor is a measuring instrument used for automated continuous sound monitoring. The SV 307A's hardware add-ons for environmental monitoring include a multi-microphone array inside of a ½” microphone housing. This array allows for a dynamic system check to be performed continuously, based on real acoustic signals measured by the device. If the levels measured by the reference microphone and the measurement microphones differ by more than a certain threshold, the system check will trigger an alarm. Additionally, the SV 307A features an in-built sound source that produces a level of about 100 dBA at 1 kHz, which can be used for automated or manual system checks.
